Resisting “Work” Lies
A couple of points need to be examined. The first is the fact that there is typically nothing productive going on when people post to these “Gurdjieff,” “Work,” “Fourth Way” or other B influence forums. These places are nothing more than collections of personalities with a peculiar hobby, each chatting about half-understood ideas that are generally labeled under the heading of “Gurdjieff.” Opinions that come out of the shallow end of the intellectual center, thoughts produced that fall far short of the intellectual story of the intellectual center, are nearly entirely useless when it comes to the ‘work’. Except as examples of lying that need to be avoided. The atmosphere of cheerful, even excited agreement about the good feeling that comes from the emotion of enthusiasm is one of the lowest functions of magnetic center. Magnetic center is only a good thing when it directs a seeker to the idea of self-remembering. When magnetic center begins to feed itself on genuine esoteric ideas then it is a harmful activity. Magnetic center is a function of personality that merely points in a good direction. Magnetic center itself can’t self-remember because self-remembering is a function of essence. Magnetic center takes the attention to the vicinity of transformational ideas, but can never understand the ideas. Magnetic center turns ideas that contain C influence and reduces them to B influence. All the chat in the “work” forums is on the level of magnetic center, that is, it is on the level of a function of personality, and rather than leading to the discovery and practice of self-remembering it leads to excitement, enthusiasm and identification. In other words all the things that self-remembering isn’t. Magnetic center is identified and can never be anything other than identified.
Generally people develop magnetic center because they experienced psychological suffering and it causes them to wonder if there is something more to life than the generally agreed on sense of reality of the mainstream. This is a good thing in that it can lead to the discovery of self-remembering, but the down side is that the majority with magnetic center tend to be cranks and even the actual mentally deranged. Suffering opens the door to new possibilities but it also distorts personalities and makes them more often than not useless for anything practical. The majority of people on the many ‘work’ discussion forums are outright mentally defective. They live in a cloud of magical pretense and imagination. Magnetic center is always in imagination about what is actually possible. It wants magic and yet it would not recognize real magic, that is, a being that had escaped some of the laws of life, unless it was forcefully made to understand. Magnetic center needs to transcend itself when it encounters something real. Magnetic center has to develop into deputy steward, a function of essence that is becoming realistic about what the real aim is in life. A crowd of crazy people arguing about the meaning of Gurdjieff passages on a discussion forum has nothing to do with deputy steward or self-remembering. Crazy undisciplined magnetic centers taking objective ideas and turning them into imagination is a criminal condition of being. Rather than leading to higher understanding such activities actually begin to destroy the power of higher ideas by turning them into imagination, into fantasy, into B influence.

People can only go up to a certain point in the forums. Too many dimensions are missing such as body language, the physical emanation of being transmitted, eye contact, the transmission of knowledge on other levels, etc. Although one might find some intellectual stimulation and other intellectual insights and angles in the forums this only goes so far and then what? Might as well just read books and do what one can alone instead of arguing with people who in reality, have a being that is a far cry from the knowledge they claim to posess. Some are pure in their intention but still it gets back to the missing dimensions. I find myself finding magic in nature more and less in the forums. Looking at a flower, watching something grow, playing with our kitty, finding something new inside myself is what brings me joy.
